The dutch sailed into NJ in 1609. There was a disagreement and NJ was split into east and west jersey. East jersey was held by Carteret. Then in 1681, William Penn and 11 other Quakers bought East Jersey. They had a little battle and the people becam anti-british and then they had a tory party to raise six loyalist battalions. And in June,1776, congress declared New Jersey a state.
